£50 notes are being taken out of circulation

As from 1st May 2014, certain £50 notes will no longer be acceptable legal tender.  The notes, to check, have Sir John Houblon's picture.  He was the first Governor of the Bank of England.  The notes featuring Matthew Boulton and James Watt, introduced in 2011, are still legal. Barclays, Natwest, RBS, Ulster Bank, Post Office and the Bank of England have all agreed to exchange the £50 notes for members of the public up to the value of £200 until 30th October 2014.
