Simon’s love for cars began at a young age, helping to maintain the family’s Riley. With a father and uncle who even built a car in the 1950s, it’s fair to say that a passion for vehicles runs deep in the family. Simon learned to drive in a Triumph Herald and went on to build his experience working for local main dealers, selling cars from well-known brands including Talbot, Fiat, Peugeot, Toyota, BMW and Mitsubishi.

Caroline’s passion for cars grew during the 1990s while Simon worked for a BMW dealership, where he had the enviable experience of driving a different company car every day. That iconic VW Golf advert featuring Paula Hamilton — where the car keys almost disappear down a drain — only added to the appeal!

In 1996, Simon and Caroline combined their love of cars and founded Simon Shield Cars Ltd. We’ve been proudly based on the same forecourt in Great Bricett, near Ipswich, ever since.
2026 marks our 30th year in the used car trade, and we’re proud to have helped generations of local customers buy and sell quality used cars.
