Roadworks on the B1078 – How to Get to Simon Shield Cars During the Closure

If you’re planning to visit us over the next few weeks, you may have seen that roadworks are taking place on the B1078 Barking Road / Needham Road. The road is closed 24 hours a day while essential drainage works are carried out to help prevent surface water flooding in the area.

The good news? We’re still fully open as normal and easy to reach.
Access to local businesses is being maintained throughout the works, and diversion routes are clearly signposted.

When are the roadworks?

The B1078 will be closed from Monday 23rd February until Friday 24th April 2026, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How to reach Simon Shield Cars during the closure

The easiest way to reach us is via:

• Stowmarket, or

• Claydon

Most sat navs and Google Maps should update automatically to follow the diversion route. We also recommend allowing a little extra time for your journey, particularly at busy times of day.

Recommended diversion route (from the A14 / Stowmarket direction)

Follow the blue highlighted route on the map.

From the A14:

• Take Junction 50 towards Stowmarket (A1120)

• Continue on the dual carriageway

• At the roundabout, go straight over towards Stowmarket

• Keep right up to the traffic lights

• Turn right at the lights and continue on the dual carriageway

• At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit towards Combs Ford

• At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the one-way system

• Turn left at the mini roundabout

• At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit up Poplar Hill

• Drive through the village and over the speed bumps

• After approximately ¾ mile, turn left onto Tannery Road (top of the hill)

• Follow Tannery Road (30mph limit, narrow road in places)

• After around 2 miles, turn right at the T-junction onto Straight Road, Battisford

• After ½ mile, turn left onto Stowmarket Road (signposted Ringshall)

• After 1.5 miles, turn right onto Carters Lane

• After ¾ mile, turn right onto Roman Road

• Simon Shield Cars is on the left-hand side

• We are located directly outside Gate 1, Wattisham Airfield
